Ancient Bog Oak Earrings

Wear a piece of history.  This bog oak is from the Fens of England.  It has been dated to between 4,000 and 6.000 years old.  Thousands of years ago, oak trees fell into pear moss bogs.  The dark color comes from the preserving properties of tannins in the acid bog waters.  If left much longer, it would likely become coal.

These earrings were made from the discards from larger pieces used in my knife-making.  They have been treated with Danish wood oil and finished with bronze-tone beads, fittings, and wire.  Tiny cracks and imperfections in the grain are sealed and stabilized.  No two are identical.  Expect variations. I made a total of 12 pairs in this batch.
